Camping with an RV is a great way to vacation. If you are new to traveling in an RV, you should know there are some important essential items to ensure the trip is a success. The following are some RV accessories you should consider stocking up on for your next RV adventure.
Surge Protector
A surge protector is one of the most important items you need for your RV. You never know when an electrical surge will occur when you are plugged into a campground's electrical system. Any surge in an electrical system can damage all of the electrical components in your RV. These damages are difficult and expensive to repair. A surge protector on your RV will ensure any potential electrical issues are avoided.
Electrical Cord
If you just purchased your RV, make sure it has a power cord before you take off on your travels. If there is no cord, you need to purchase one. You will not be able to plug into the campground's electrical system without it. You cannot use a standard extension cord you have at home. You need a special shore power cord that matches the amperage of your RV. Check your manufacturer's instructions to find out which cord amperage you need.
Hoses
There are some important hoses you need to ensure you have water in your RV. A freshwater hose is necessary to connect the campground's water supply to your RV. A freshwater hose helps avoid the need to fill and travel with water in your freshwater tanks. Unless you are boondocking, there is no need to have full water tanks as you travel to your destination. Full water tanks add weight to your tow vehicle and decrease your fuel efficiency. A freshwater hose connects directly to your RV from the spigot at your campsite, providing you with fresh water whenever you need it.
You also need a hose for your black and grey water cleanout. You do not want to use the hose for your freshwater anywhere near your RV's sewer system.
Water Filter
Another helpful item to have on your RV is a water filter. You never know where your water source will come from as you camp. For the best quality water, install a water filter in your RV. Not only will your water taste better, but you will also avoid any damage to your water tanks from dirt or sediment that may enter through the campground's water system.
Special Toilet Paper
You should not flush just any type of toilet paper in your RV toilet. You need toilet paper that is thin and ultra-biodegradable to prevent major clogs. You do not want to deal with a clogged black tank on your camping trip. You can purchase RV toilet paper in most camping stores and in some big box stores. Alternatively, you can purchase one-ply toilet paper and use it in your RV toilet but try to do so sparingly.
